Overview
Northville High School History
The school opened in 1959. As the school district population has grown throughout the years, so has the high school. 2287 students were enrolled at the beginning of the 2012–13 school year. The high school used to be located in the city of Northville itself. With the substantial growth of the surrounding community, the district constructed a larger facility on Six Mile Road in Northville Township, south of the city—though the mailing address still says Northville. The previous building became Hillside Middle School. Two years after construction of the new building, an extension to the east wing of the building was added. In 2014, NHS was named a Silver Medal High School by U.S. News and World Report, one of 50 schools in Michigan to receive this award.

Northville
Northville was first settled by European Americans in 1825, and was incorporated as a Village in 1867. It was not incorporated as a City until 1955. Originally one of two communities within Plymouth Township, Northville Township split off in 1898 to form its own township.
Northville is a city in Oakland and Wayne counties in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 5,970 at the 2010 census. It is a suburb of Metro Detroit and is located about 11 miles (17.7 km) west of the city of Detroit and 17 miles (27.4 km) northeast of Ann Arbor. Most of the city is in Oakland County and is surrounded by the city of Novi, while the other part is in Wayne County and is surrounded by Northville Township. Northville is served by Northville Public Schools.
